Month: July 2016

July – Day 6

I am certain that to preach the wrath of God with a hard heart, a cold lip, a tearless eye, and an unfeeling spirit is to harden men, not benefit them. – Charles Spurgeon

New Testament

  • Luke 8:26-39
  • Colossians 3:1-14

Old Testament

  • Psalm 129
  • 1 Chronicles 12-14

“I beg you do not torment me!” This is the response from darkness to the Light. Is it any wonder that people who don’t know Christ respond negatively to us. Unbelievers are uncomfortable and sometimes tormented in the presence of Christ in believers.

The wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. As God’s children, we have escaped his wrath. We are to put no love above all else.

The Lord is righteous!

War has been a prevalent part of mankind since the dawn of time. Think about the jealous war which led to the first murder, between Cain & Abel.

I love how David sought the Lord before going up against the Philistines. It would behoove us to always seek the Lord before we take matters of offense into our own hands.

Oh Lord, how good it is to know that your light has been poured into our hearts. Remind us daily that we have escaped your wrath through our adoption as your children. Be glorified in everything we do today. In Jesus name…amen.

July – Day 5

The more often a stupidity is repeated, the more it gets the appearance of wisdom. Voltaire

New Testament

  • Luke 8:16-25
  • Colossians 2:16-23

Old Testament

  • Psalm 128
  • 1 Chronicles 10-11

The idea of putting a lamp under a basket, or under the bed, hiding it any way is ridiculous to think about. So it is with the light of Christ within us. We must be willing to let it shine, untainted by the world, so that others would be drawn to how glorious His light is.

We have died with Christ from the basic principles of the world. Therefore we must guard ourselves from the philosophies of the world that give us an appearance of wisdom but in reality have no value against the indulgence of the flesh.

There is great blessing when we walk in the fear, in divine reverence, of the Lord.

Saul died a shameful death because he did not keep the word of the Lord and sought the ways of the world to understand spiritual truths. Oh that we might learn from his life so that we might always seek the truths of God.

I love looking at David’s mighty men, not perfect, but mighty in the Lord.

Oh Lord, help us by the Holy Spirit to let your light shine through us. Guard our hearts from being influenced by the philosophies of the world so that others might be drawn to you. May our lives always reflect a bit of your glory. In Jesus name…amen.

July – Day 4

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. – Psalm 127

New Testament

  • Luke 8:1-15
  • Colossians 2:8-15

Old Testament

  • Psalm 127
  • 1 Chron 7-9

When I think of Jesus going through every city and village preaching the Gospel, I think about our responsibility to do the same. Doing so brings glad tidings of the kingdom of God. People today need that more than ever.

I would have loved to have heard the testimonies of those whom Jesus healed. Imagine hearing Mary Magdalene speak of the seven demons whom Jesus commanded to leave. How incredible would that have been!

Think of our world today and the numbers of people who are being cheated through philosophy and empty deceipt according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principals of the world, and not according to Christ.

Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain who build it. May we let the Lord build our house that it might forever stand.

Oh Lord, give us a greater desire to proclaim the Gospel bringing glad tidings of the kingdom of God to the world. Guard us from philosophies and traditions of man that seek to lead us away from you. Help us to build our houses on your truths. In Jesus name…amen.

July – Day 3

There is a wisdom of the head, and a wisdom of the heart. • Charles Dickens

New Testament

  • Luke 7:36-50
  • Colossians 2:1-7

Old Testament

  • Psalms 126
  • 1 Chronicles 5-6

Jesus wasn’t afraid to touch sinners, nor should we. It is in coming to grips with sin that we begin to understand the expanse of God’s forgiveness. The more we understand the greatness of his forgiveness, the more we love and adore the Lord.

In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Having received Christ, we are rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith.

One of the principles of God’s truths is that when we press through the sadness of this life, when we sow in tears, we shall reap in joy. Oh how important it is to hold loosely to this world.

Oh Lord, help us to never be afraid to reach out to the lost, for such were each of us at one time. May those who don’t know you, see and feel your presence when they are around us. May we accurately represent you to them. Thank you for the hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge, by we seek to be more firmly rooted and built up in Christ than ever before. In Jesus name…amen.

July – Day 2

You should not believe your conscience and your feelings more than the word which the Lord who receives sinners preaches to you. • Martin Luther

New Testament

  • Luke 7:18-35
  • Colossians 1:15-29

Old Testament

  • Psalms 125
  • 1 Chronicles 3-4

Among all of the people who were hearing Jesus, were tax collectors who “justified God”, in other words, “declared the righteousness of God. Unrepentant Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves.

When we see Jesus, we see an image of the invisible God. When we want to know what God looks like, we look at Jesus. He is the preeminence of all things.

We must let the Lord deal with the wicked according to His ways, not the way we think God should deal with them. When we think He doesn’t know what He is doing, we are in a heap of trouble.

Oh Lord, may our lives reflect a consistent declaration of your righteousness. Guard us from ever thinking you should deal with people and situations in our lives the way “we think” you should. Lead us to a greater trust in you in all things. In Jesus name…amen.

July – Day 1

When Jesus Christ utters a word, He opens His mouth so wide that it embraces all Heaven and earth, even though that word be but in a whisper. • Martin Luther

New Testament

  • Luke 7:11-17
  • Colossians 1:1-14

Old Testament

  • Psalms 123-124
  • 1 Chron 1-2

I love this story of the widow and her son. Christianity is all about relationship, relationship with God and then with others. God desires that we are not alone. “Young man, I say to you arise.” Imagine what that would have been like to have witnessed that.

Paul’s prayer for the church at Colossae is so beautiful. Through the name of Jesus, we have been delivered form the power of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of God’s love. It is in Jesus alone that we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

I recently saw a picture of the universe and was just amazed by it, unable to comprehend it fully. God dwells in the heavens. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

Get ready for a bunch of genealogies! God is concerned with us knowing his name through the lineage of those before us.

Dear Lord, thank you for another day and the start of another month of reading through your word. Complete us through it, and draw us, by the Holy Spirit, to be eager to take it in. Thank you for Jesus our redemption through His precious blood. Thank you for forgiving our sins and the constant reminder of what a wonderful thing that is. In Jesus name…amen.
