Psalms 103-104, 1 Corinthians 2

Psalms 103:1-2
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

This is such a wonderful psalm which lists just a few of the numerous benefits of being a Christian, of being a child of God. Take some time to really meditate on this psalm, considering all He has done for us.

Psalms 103:3-4
Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

How I thank God that He forgave all my sin. This is without question the most wonderful thing He could have ever done. If this was all He had done, that would have clearly been enough. But instead, He does a whole lot more!

Psalms 103:10
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.

Think about how great it is that He has not dealt with us according to our sins. How is this possible? We are acutely aware of our wrong towards God. If He is obligated by His word to punish for sin, why are we spared. One reason…Jesus!

Psalms 104:24
O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—

Is there any doubt that there is a God? Is there any doubt that we have a Creator who put all things in order? If there is, all one needs to do is stop long enough to take the attention off of themselves, open their eyes, and look at all of the things that are happening all around them. The only thing that prevents a person from knowing God is sheer arrogance.

1 Corinthians 2:1-2
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Paul was a brilliant man. He was an expert in the Scriptures. He was second to none when it came to an intellectual understanding of Judaism. However, after his conversion, all the knowledge he had acquired meant nothing. He understood that head knowledge could not save a man, but only heart knowledge, only a heart transformation could rescue man from his own depravity. He also came to know and understand that it was only the cross which could save man. This is why he really wasn’t interested in anything else. May it be so with us!

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The reason that unbelievers can’t understand the Bible is because they are unregerated. Only a born again Christian can have a heart understanding of God’s word. The only part of the Bible an unbeliever can understand is this; there is a God, I want to know Him, I can’t because I am a sinner, the only way I can be reconciledl to a Holy God is to have my sin dealt with, Jesus is the only one who can do this, repent, acknowledge Jesus for who He is and what He came to earth to do, and then be born again into a new life. Why aren’t more people willing to do this? They don’t like the ‘repent’ part. It really is that simple.
