Leviticus 14

Leviticus 14:6-7
6 As for the living bird, he shall take it, the cedar wood and the scarlet and the hyssop, and dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water. 7 And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose in the open field.

There are so many beautiful images in the book of Leviticus that speak of the cleansing of our sin, through the blood of Jesus Christ. Here we see a picture of sacrificial death, the covering of blood, the declaration that we are clean by that blood and then a wonderful picture of our sin being taken away through this picture of the living bird being loosed in the field. Psalms 103:12 tells us, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Leviticus 14:14
14 The priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

Once you understand the power of the shed blood of Jesus and the way it transformed our lives, you appreciate all of the pictures of what His blood accomplished for us. Here we see a picture of His blood on the ear, giving us the divine ability to ‘hear’ spiritual truth; on the thumb, giving us the divine ability to ‘serve’ the Lord by the work of our hands; and on the big toe, giving us the ability to ‘go’ wherever we need to go, proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

Leviticus 14:41-42
41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped inside, all around, and the dust that they scrape off they shall pour out in an unclean place outside the city. 42 Then they shall take other stones and put them in the place of those stones, and he shall take other mortar and plaster the house.

This is a reminder to me, to do a regular spiritual cleansing of my heart, my spiritual house. Is there anything in my life that needs to be taken out and replaced with new stones? We live in a fallen and corrupt world where it is easy to get contaminated. Remember that Jesus is praying for us, “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” John 17:15. Is today a good day for some housecleaning?
