Exodus 29-30

Exodus 29:20-21
20 Then you shall kill the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar. 21 And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him; and he and his garments shall be hallowed, and his sons and his sons’ garments with him.

This is the preparation of Aaron for his role in the priesthood. Obviously, God had a reason that there would be so much blood involved. This can seem like a morbid thing, until we realize that the purpose of the blood was a preview of the cleansing that the blood of Jesus would make in atoning for our sins.

We know, and the bible confirms that life is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11). We know that it is impossible for anyone to physically live without their blood. In the same manner, it is impossible for anyone to live eternally with God without acceptance of the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:22 says, without the shedding of blood there is no remission, no removal of sin.

All of the shedding of blood in the sacrifices we see in the Old Testament are a foreshadow of the shed blood on the cross and what Jesus’s death would accomplish for us. That is so awesome to me!

Exodus 29:45
45 I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God.

God created us to dwell with Him, both here on earth and for all eternity. It is only sin that can separate us from God, and it is only Jesus who can take away our sin.

Exodus 30:7
7 “Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.

The burning of incense in the morning here is a picture of our morning prayers being offered up to God. It is vitally important in the life of a Christian to be faithful in daily morning prayer. We must fight hard to have that time with Lord. He longs to be with us and anticipates that we will call out to Him each and every morning.

Exodus 30:32
32 It shall not be poured on man’s flesh; nor shall you make any other like it, according to its composition. It is holy, and it shall be holy to you.

Pay close attention, throughout the bible, to God’s emphasis on holiness. It is so important, sadly often a neglected attribute within the body of Christians today.
