Genesis 39-40, Matthew 11

Genesis 39:2-4
2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. Then he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority.

The Lord is looking to bless people whose hearts ore loyal to Him. We find favor in some of the most unusual circumstances when we trust God and continue to trust Him even in difficult circumstances.

Genesis 39:11-12
11 But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, 12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.

The best way to overcome sin, is to purpose in our hearts to run away from it long before the temptation comes we must decide that we love the Lord more than anything else. Then, when the temptation comes, our first instinct is to run!

Genesis 39:21
21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

The Lord is with us, ready to care for us, even in adversity!

Genesis 40:8
8 And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.”

I have been around some crazy things that have been done in the name of God…false prophecies, a couple of visions and the like. I love Joseph’s response to these two men. Once Joseph acknowledges who is is that does the interpreting, God uses him. There is nothing that we can do without Him…nothing!

Genesis 40:19
19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you.”

Not quite the interpretation he was hoping for…I am sure!

Matthew 11:1
1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

I love this picture of Jesus, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He sends the disciples out to preach and then while they are gone. He goes out and does the very same thing. How foolish to think we should commit our lives to anything less.

Matthew 11:11
11 “ Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

Imagine Jesus saying this about you. Can’t wait to meet John in heaven. I’ll bet he is the most humble person you could ever hope to meet.

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

This is one of the most comforting Scriptures in the bible. I use it often and apply it to my own life whenever I am feeling heavy hearted. He is the only one who can bring true rest.
